Twitter was founded in 2006 as a free digital service site that blends social networking with the ability to post short messages (or micro-blogs) limited to 140 characters or less, commonly known by users as "Tweets." Twitter's service works equally well on personal computers, mobile devices, and smartphones. The service has become a key communication platform as major events unfold live in real-time around the world. Currently Twitter claims more than 300 million users worldwide. Twitter went public in 2013, raising about $1.82 billion in the process. It has also expanded to include short-term video with its Vine platform and live streaming with its Periscope app.
Twitter has a reputation for being a great employer and proudly displays the hashtags #LoveWhereYouWork, #LetsBuildYourFuture and #DesignYourCareer on its careers webpage. And they boast that interns will have all the support they need — and the responsibility — to make a difference on a grand scale.
Twitter believes it is important that an intern works on a team or project that's meaningful to them. Twitter believes that all of its teams are solving challenging problems impacting millions of users and feel so strongly that one of those teams will be a perfect fit for any intern that they let participants in the program choose which team they would like to work for and the location they would like to work from, out of an extensive list of possibilities.
All interns have a hand in building Twitter - whether they are in engineering or global sales and revenue. Interns are given the freedom to take risks and the ability to use their knowledge to tackle tough problems. Interns and full-time employees work hand-in-hand to empower the world to share ideas instantly.
In addition to the work, interns will be matched with both a manager *and* mentor for support throughout the internship. In addition, they’ll meet with key leaders and innovators across the company. Every day they’ll work alongside some of the friendliest and smartest people in the business — in a transparent environment where hard work is expected and fun is never forgotten. From Q&A’s with the CEO to extreme go-kart racing, interns will never have a dull moment and will always have an opportunity to learn and grow.
Interns will have the opportunity to work on the following teams:
Data Science & Analytics
Legal & Public Policy
Marketing & Communications
Sales & Partnerships
They may also work as an intern on the following brands: Vine, Fabric or Periscope.
And there is even a Twitter feed that features posts from interns. Follow @terns to find out what it's like to intern at Twitter and get the inside scoop on the great work being performed on a daily basis.
Many of the chief qualifications to work at Twitter are similar across the company. Where they tend to differ is based on the internship program, where software engineers are expected to possess different skills from someone looking to fill a marketing internship role.
