Activity level in the VC industry is roughly half of what it was at its 2000-era peak (before the Great Recession). Venture capital firms had $156.5 billion in capital under management in 2014, according to the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA). During that same year, investment levels reached their highest amount ($49.3 billion) since 2000, up from $30.1 billion in 2013.
