According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, employment for all physicians and surgeons is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through 2024. Employment prospects for urologists are good. The demographics of American society illustrate that the growth in the aging population will increase demand for services that cater, in large part, to them. With baby boomers aging, the need for qualified urologists will continue to grow. In recent years, the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act increased the number of people who are covered by health insurance—and created more demand for urologists and other physicians.
