The Department of Labor (DOL) does not provide salary information for transportation planners, but categorizes the profession as a division of social scientists and related workers. In May 2017, these professionals earned a median salary of $79,370. The lowest 10 percent earned $48,580 and the top 10 percent earned $123,230 or more. Those who worked for management, scientific, and technical consulting services earned about $99,430, while those employed by state and federal agencies earned from $69,270 to $87,490.
