According to the U.S. Department of Labor, reporters and correspondents, a category that includes sportswriters, had median annual earnings of $36,360 in May 2015. The lowest paid 10 percent of all reporters earned less than $21,390, while the highest paid 10 percent earned more than $81,580. Reporters and correspondents that worked for newspapers, magazines, and other periodicals earned an average of $40,860.
