Sports Publicists

Outlook

The field of sports publicity is very competitive, and even though it is expanding as more teams and leagues form, it is still difficult to land a job. The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that employment of public relations specialists will grow about as fast as the average for all careers, by 6 percent, through 2024. The number of applicants with degrees in the communications fields (journalism, public relations, and advertising) is expected to exceed the number of job openings. Sports publicists with strong knowledge of social media and who keep up with the latest communications technologies will continue to be in demand in the the coming years.
