The percentage of Americans who practice Hinduism nearly doubled from 2007 to 2014, according to America’s Changing Religious Landscape, a report from the Pew Research Center, which suggests that there is good demand for purohits. But if you consider the actual numbers of devotees to Hinduism in the United States (2.5 million), the relatively small number of Hindu temples in the U.S. (200 or so), the employment outlook is a bit more sobering. Opportunities in certain cities or regions of India and other predominantly Hindu countries will be better, but the number of purohitas is still small.
