Some engineers may be represented by the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (http://www.ifpte.org) and other unions. ABET accredits engineering education programs. Major professional organizations for petroleum engineers include the Society of Petroleum Engineers, American Petroleum Institute, and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Other helpful organizations include the American Society for Engineering Education, National Society of Professional Engineers, and the Society of Women Engineers. Additionally, the American Indian Science and Engineering Society promotes networking and professional advancement for American Indian students pursuing engineering.
