Law Librarians

There are two conflicting employment outlooks for law librarians. The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) predicts that employment for librarians who work in the legal services industry is expected to decline through 2024 as a result of staffing cutbacks at law firms and legal industry consolidation. On the other hand, the American Association of Law Libraries predicts "a very positive outlook due to a significant loss of retiring law librarians during the next 10 years." Overall employment for librarians is expected to grow by 2 percent through 2024, or more slowly than the average. Librarians who stay up to date with the latest technology and education in the field, as well with as trends in the legal industry, will have the best employment prospects.
