Food Technologists


Employment for food technologists is expected to grow by 3 percent through 2024, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, or more slowly than the average for all careers. The employment outlook varies by industry. For example, job opportunities for food technologists who work in consulting and scientific consulting are expected to grow by 27 percent, while employment in manufacturing is expected to decline by 1 percent. Employment at state and local government agencies is expected to increase by 3 percent, while job opportunities at federal government agencies are expected to decline by nearly 10 percent. Employment for self-employed food technologists is expected to increase by 14 percent.
