Those working for federal government agencies averaged higher annual salaries ($100,760) than those who worked for state ($64,230) and local governments ($71,030). The states and territories where environmental scientists and specialists earned the highest incomes were the District of Columbia, Texas, Colorado, Alaska, and New Mexico.
