Directors of corporate sponsorship may also be called corporate sponsorship directors, sponsorship directors, corporate sponsorship managers, directors of sponsorship and corporate relations, directors of corporate development, corporate giving managers, directors of fund-raising and sponsorship or directors of development. No matter the name, the individual is in the role of a key management position.
Most large corporations have an individual or department responsible for reviewing and determining the company’s role in corporate sponsorship. The purpose may be charitable, but will likely be an avenue for advertising, branding, and promoting good will. The director of corporate sponsorship receives, evaluates, and recommends (to other members of the corporate team) requests for sponsorship funds from the corporation, and to implement such sponsorship projects. Such projects may be as significant as multi-million dollar stadium namings or as small as providing t-shirts for a youth run. The individual has the responsibility of assuring the company’s values, goals, marketing, and branding opportunities and standards are upheld, and that the company enjoys the desired benefits of the sponsorship. Similar opportunities for employment exist as director of corporate sponsorship for charitable and non-profit organizations. As a director in a non-profit organization, the individual is responsible for seeking out, applying for, promoting, and managing corporate sponsorships and partnerships, major means of funding and financial support for the organization.
