Deputy U.S. Marshals

Outlook

Changes in the service's budget, as well as increases or decreases in the responsibilities assigned the service, affect employment opportunities for deputy U.S. marshals. Careers in law enforcement and security-related fields in general are expected to grow more slowly than the average in some cases, fueled by decreases in the crime rate. However, threats of terrorist activity have put all public safety officials on alert, from FBI and CIA experts to local police forces and private security companies. There is now increased security particularly in and around government offices, public buildings, airports, post offices, and media headquarters.
