Experience, Skills, and Personality Traits

Experience includes an aptitude for statistical analysis and a profound interest in solving mathematical problems. Some demographers begin their training as students in high school with summer jobs doing statistical research for local government agencies or private corporations. They may have also created a statistical analysis of their school population or community as an academic project. In college, those preparing to become demographers may major in urban planning or sociology with courses in statistics and sociology. They also complete internships to obtain experience and make industry contacts.
