Customer Service Representatives

Outlook

Employment for customer service representatives will grow faster than the average for all careers from 2014 to 2024, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Telephone call centers are expected to offer the most job opportunities. The customer service industry is a large field and many replacement workers are needed each year as customer service reps leave this job for other positions, retire, or leave for other reasons. In addition, the Internet and e-commerce should increase the need for customer service representatives who will be needed to help customers navigate Web sites, answer questions over the phone, and respond to e-mails. Greater interactions with customers is also expected due to the increased use of social media and live chats. Companies will prefer to hire customer service representatives who have strong communication skills.
