Coremakers

Exploring This Job

To explore this work, ask your teachers or school counselor to arrange a visit for you and other interested students to a foundry so that you can observe the work and ask questions about it. Hobbies such as sculpture or metalworking can help you develop manual dexterity and provide experience working with metals. To find out about workshops or classes in sculpture, check with summer school programs, museums, or art centers. If there is a foundry in your area, you may be able to obtain a summer or part-time job as a helper in a coremaking operation.
