According to the U.S. Department of Labor, earnings for ceramics engineers are quite good. The department reports a median annual income for all materials engineers (a category including ceramics engineers) of $91,310 or $43.90 per hour in May 2015. At the low end of the scale, 10 percent of materials engineers earned less than $53,120 annually. The highest paid 10 percent had annual incomes of more than $144,720 during this same time period. Materials engineers who worked for federal agencies earned mean annual salaries of $113,000, while those employed in aerospace and products parts manufacturing earned $107,640 annually.
