Earnings for bookkeeping and accounting clerks are influenced by such factors as the size of the city or town where they work, their skill set and educational background, and the size and type of business for which they are employed. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, bookkeepers and accounting clerks earned a median income of $37,250 a year in May 2014. Clerks in the bottom 10 percentile earned approximately $22,940 or less a year. Those with one or two years of college generally earn higher starting wages.  Bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks in the top 10 percentile averaged $57,920 or more a year.
