Automotive Designers

Outlook

Employment of industrial designers is expected to grow more slowly than the average for all occupations through 2024, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The outlook for industrial designers who work in the manufacturing industry is even grimmer, with a slight decline in employment predicted in the years to come. Despite this outlook, there will continue to be a need for automotive designers to create new car designs—especially as competition between automotive companies increases. Designers who combine business expertise with an educational background in engineering, computer-aided design, and computer-aided industrial design will have the best employment prospects.
