Acupuncturists can expect starting earnings that range from $30,000 to $40,000. Experienced acupuncturists earn about $60,000 per year. Physicians who practice acupuncture as part of their medical practices have incomes that can be well over $100,000 per year. According to PayScale, the median salary of acupuncturists in the United States is $49,000. The lowest 10 percent earned $26,000 or less, and the top 10 percent earned $82,000 or more. As with any other form of self-employment, income is directly related to the number of hours an acupuncturist works and the rates they can charge. Rates increase with experience. Like other self-employed individuals, acupuncturists must provide their own insurance, vacation, and retirement benefits.
