Industry Outlook

The share of Americans aged 65 and older will grow from about one in seven of the population today to one in five by 2060, according to Census Bureau projections, an increase from 43.1 million to 92 million. The share of those 85 and older will triple, from 5.9 million to 18.2 million people. The Department of Health and Human Services estimates that about 60 percent of seniors will need at least some kind of long-term care during their lifetime and more than 40 percent will need to be cared for in a nursing home at some time. It seems inevitable that senior care will grow in importance as an industry.
