About Robinson & Cole LLP

Robinson & Cole LLP was founded in 1845 in Connecticut. The firm has three offices in the Constitution state, and boasts an additional eight offices across the U.S. With more than 200 lawyers among its ranks, Robinson+Cole is an AmLaw 200 firm with clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies.

From Trials to Transactions

Attorneys at Robinson+Cole work in 15 main practices, advising clients across 11 industries. Among the industries the firm serves are construction, education, energy, exempt organizations, financial institutions, food and beverage, health care, insurance, manufacturing, marine ports, real estate, and technology. The firm also pens various blogs relating to some of these areas.

Close to one third of the firm’s lawyers practice in its litigation group. The firm’s litigators are experienced in such areas as antitrust, business litigation, class actions, data privacy and cybersecurity, employment, environmental law, health care, product liability, real estate, and more. The firm touts its litigators’ trial experience and appellate experience.

Robinson+Cole’s corporate lawyers assist everyone from entrepreneurs to corporate legal departments with their transactional needs, including investment management, M&A, private equity, and securities. The firm prides itself in a personalized approach through which it strives to understand the client’s market position, needs, and long-term goals.

Rocking Real Estate & Blooming Bankruptcy

The firm has been recognized for its real estate work, which includes commercial leasing, affordable housing and financing, lending, litigating, project development, and more. Clients include large companies, lenders, retailers, developers, and state agencies.

With an eye toward the future, the firm recently bolstered its bankruptcy practice, adding a new team of lawyers, as well as offices in Philadelphia, PA, and Wilmington, DE, in early 2019. These locations join the firm’s expanding New York City office and Hartford office as hubs of the Bankruptcy and Restructuring practice. Robinson+Cole employs a cross-disciplinary approach to its bankruptcy matters, offering clients counsel into such areas as finance, hedge funds, M&A, regulatory law, tax, and complex needs of clients who wish to capitalize on dislocations in the marketplace.

Food for Thought & Mentors Times Two

If there is one thing Robinson+Cole isn’t short on, it is support for its associates. The firm strives to give associates a voice through its Associates Council—a group that serves as liaisons between the associates and firm management. The Associates Council runs an annual retreat for all of the associates with educational and fun activities on the agenda. All associates also receive not just one, but two mentors—an associate mentor and a partner one. And associates can grab a bite, stay up to date on recent trends in the legal industry, and fulfill MCLE requirements through the firm’s luncheon series called “Food for Thought.” In addition, associates have a series of more informal “Lunch & Learn” sessions hosted by the firm’s Career Development partner to address questions and concerns they have as they navigate their career paths.

COVID-19 Update

Robinson+Cole continues to recruit top talent through lateral hiring and our summer associate program. As the health and safety of our people is a top priority, we have successfully leveraged our technology to provide flexibility to move our onboarding and integration procedures to a virtual setting. We were excited to welcome our 2020 fall associates with the same extensive onboarding and training programs in November. During this time, we provided a technology stipend to attorneys for their home offices, and maintained compensation and attorney staffing levels. We have stayed connected through weekly video updates from our managing partner; practice group meetings; associate meetings; and lunch ‘n learns, trivia nights and other remote group activities. We have focused on supporting our parents who have been especially challenged during this pandemic to wear multiple hats.

Why Work Here

PAST + PRESENT STRENGTHS

Robinson+Cole is an AmLaw 200 law firm established 175 years ago with a deeply-rooted culture of collaboration, civility and inclusion. We share a rich history and culture of community involvement, pro bono service and dedication to client service. Our past shapes and informs  us, but it does not define us. The connections we have today and will make tomorrow keep us focused on the future, helping to refine our methods while devising new ways to best serve clients and maintain a competitive advantage in the legal profession.

More than ever, a modern law firm must be flexible and creative to thrive. This is not simply adapting to the changing legal landscape; it is taking the initiative to ensure mutually-rewarding business relationships with our clients. Alternative fee arrangements are a regular fixture of the conversation between law firms and their clients, and warrant consideration even when they may not fit a particular set of circumstances. We welcome those conversations.
